Not Just Khow Suey: Experience Authentic Burmese Dining At This New Restaurant In Indiranagar

Ten-Second Takeaway

The famous Burmese vegetarian heaven Burma Burma comes to Bangalore. So, if you are looking for some peace with your dining then this is the place to be.

The Serene Setting

Burma Burma’s interiors will instantly put you at ease with its Zen-like atmosphere. Staying true to their name, the space borrows decor elements such as finger puppets that depict the various tribes of Burma and lacquerware crockery that dot the space. The pillar by the tea bar features a huge, detailed mural of a typical Burmese lady who we christened as Mei Mei. Longyi fabric, a popular Burmese cloth, feature extensively on cushions. Textured walls depict walls of ageing Burmese temples and bright colours give off a slightly rustic but contemporary vibe.

A Lovely Meal

Ever heard of Samosa Soup? Yeah! That is what we started off with. A thin broth with chickpeas, ginger, chilli, lemon and some sugar with a mini samosa dunked right in the middle. A little sceptical we gave it a shot, but the broth turned out to be refreshing and the addition of the samosa, a novelty. Next up were salads, and after listening to the rave reviews from our counterparts in other cities, we had to try some. We tried Gin Thoke {pickled ginger salad} that got our taste buds tingling and Tayat Thi Thoke {raw mango salad} that had the right combination of peanuts and red chillies. No Burmese meal is complete without some khow suey and that is exactly what we did. We tried the Shwedagon Khow Suey, noodles served with a creamy tomato curry and topped with coconut mayo — this was comfort food levels for us.

There’s Tea Too

Burma Burma takes their teas very seriously, and this is the place where you will come to eat your tea too! Tea is an essential part of the cuisine here and acts as a perfect palate cleanser. The teapots here are something we would love to steal someday. So take it hot, cold or bubble, they have it all.
