Ever since TVS unveiled the stunning Akula 310 concept at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the motorcycle enthusiasts of the country have been tirelessly waiting for the production version to hit the streets or the racetrack, for that matter. A couple of days ago, TVS finally gave us the good news by confirming that the Akula 310 concept will materialise into a road-going version, dubbed the Apache RR 310, come December 6, 2017.
Now, while TVS is keeping all the details and specifications of the upcoming Apache RR 310 close to its chest at the moment, there are a few things that we already know about the new TVS flagship. Here are the top ones,
Design: There’s no denying the fact that the Akula concept looked gob-smacking. However, the production version will be toned down for apparent reasons – meaning, the Apache RR 310 will not flaunt the swanky carbon-fibre bodywork of the concept. That being said, we’re certain that it’ll retain the sporty and proportionate dimensions of the Akula. As has already been seen in the teaser, the full-faired motorcycle’s design will be highlighted by a wide fairing at front, featuring projector lamps and LED position lamps while the rest of the styling elements include LED indicators, a sharp tail-section with an LED tail-light and an exposed trellis frame that reads ‘RaceSpec’ just like it was in the Akula concept. The motorcycle also gets a fully digital instrument cluster. And, of course, there’s a racing stripe as well.
Chassis: The Apache RR 310 will share its chassis with the BMW G 310 R (also due for launch in India). This would mean that it’ll feature a tubular steel trellis frame that will be suspended by an upside-down fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. The BMW has a die-cast aluminium swing-arm so expect the Apache to feature the same. The wheel size on both the ends is expected to be identical to the BMW as well – 110/70 R17 (front) and 150/60 R17 (rear). Braking force should come from a 300mm single disc at front and a 240mm disc at the rear wheel. ABS will be available.
Engine & gearbox: Powering the Apache RR 310 will be the same engine that does duty in the BMW G 310 R. As a result, the specifications are expected to remain more or less the same as the BMW roadster. Power output figure should hover around 34bhp along with a peak torque of 28Nm. Power transmission duties will be carried out by a six-speeder.
Competition & price: Since the TVS Apache RR 310 is a fully-faired sportbike clubbed with the company’s racing pedigree, it’ll have the KTM RC 390 in its crosshairs from day 1. However, while the KTM retails for Rs 2.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Apache RR 310 is expected to undercut the Austrian competitor by a significant margin. We think an ex-showroom price-tag of around Rs 2 lakh will make it a serious contender given all the goodies it packs.
